LOHAS (Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability) is a new lifestyle movement originating from the West, emphasizing living in a way that promotes both personal health and sustainable development. The term LOHAS was first introduced in 1998 by American sociologist Paul H. Ray and psychologist Sherry Ruth Anderson. It refers to a group of people who, when making consumer decisions, consider not only their own and their family’s health but also their responsibility toward the environment.
In recent years, this healthy and joyful way of living has been gaining popularity worldwide.
LOHAS individuals actively engage in environmental issues they care about. They not only choose products that are beneficial to health and environmentally friendly but also encourage others to adopt a more conscious and responsible consumption mindset. Their purchasing decisions are guided by concerns for personal and family well-being as well as the sustainability of the planet. Through this lifestyle, they cultivate a more positive and fulfilling state of mind, ultimately achieving greater health and happiness.
